Near Field Communication

short-range wireless connectivity standard (Ecma-340, ISO/IEC 18092) that uses magnetic field detection to enable communication between two devices when they are in physical contact or a few centimetres from each other.
The standard, developed conjointly by Philips and Sony, specifies how devices can establish a peer-to-peer (P2P) network to exchange data.
Once a P2P network is established, another wireless communication technology, such as Bluetooth or WiFi, can be used to transmit over longer distances or transfer large volumes of data.
